Emotion/Feeling/Mood

“Emotions,” ” feelings,” and sometimes even “mood” are often used interchangeably in casual conversation…which is fine, as the context for what is being said is implicitly sufficient to know and understand their intended meaning in such synonymous usage.

But…in learning how your mind works (i.e., as in here via the ERM), it is important to understand more precisely what each one – emotion, feeling, mood – is…to better comprehend how our mind works, and thus to better “use it.”

So…your Elephant generates/creates your emotions – and they “show up” in physical symptoms and behaviors that you have no choice in having (e.g., sweating, blushing, nauseousness, panic/anxiety, crying, facial presentation [smiling, scowling, frowning]); and your Rider – which must use languagefeels the emotions using words (like good, happy, sad, anxious, angry, confused, etc)…

In short, your Elephant – in reacting – creates emotions; your Rider feels them…

Mindfulness defined...

Mindfulness is your Rider in a mental state of self-directed  focused awareness on what is happening in the present moment [i.e., the emotions your feeling, in such a way as to constructively respond to the reactions being experienced.

SQ

meditation, mindfulness, reconditioning
Sitting Quietly (SQ) is first a self-care practice, one of calming renewal and connection…it’s also “the vehicle” of introspection, enabling discovery, insight…and healing.

Life Practices are particular activities we engage on a more or less regular basis, using skillsets we learn and develop, and that serve to make our lives meaningful, productive, and rewarding…

SQ is an evidenced-based way to actually retrain the Elephant and effect lasting change
